Maine Desk is the Editorial Home for CIN: Computers, Informatics, Nursing
What began as a newsletter in the early 1980s has grown to be the leading nursing informatics journal in the world. CIN celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2002. Published bimonthly by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, CIN is dedicated to advances in nursing informatics practice, education, research, and administration. Three times per year, CIN includes CIN Plus--twelve pages of up-to-the minute news, features, and easy access articles. CIN Plus is edited by Linda Q. Thede, PhD, RN, BC, who joined the CIN Editorial Team in February, 2005.

Website Evaluation
A recent discussion on the CARING list highlighted the importance of quick and easy tools to evaulate information found on the Internet. Dr. Nicoll has written on this topic in a number of places. Based on an initial comment from a student, she has developed a mnemonic: "Are you PLEASED with the site?" The letters stand for:
P: Purpose L:Links E:Editorial A:Author S:Site E:Ethics D:Date updated
To read a brief article that describes this mnemonic in more detail, click here. This article was originally published in CIN Plus, vol. 3, no. 3, September 2000.

Research Utilization
Again, from my colleagues on the CARING list, a recent question came up about models for research utilization. An older article (1997) I wrote on the topic can be found here
Another article, looking at evidence-based practice and research utilization, can be found here.
